The Idle Hands follow their recent performance at this year's SxSW showcase with a debut UK single release and London tour dates in April. The band, from Minneapolis, were discovered late in 2005 by new independent label Lavolta Records.
The Idle Hands are the brainchild of singer and songwriter Ciaran Daly. Having abandoned his previous band in San Francisco after a particularly troublesome tour, Ciaran met and recruited keyboard player (and good friend) Eileen by chance, straight after his long Greyhound Bus journey back home. The band then took shape when Ciaran asked brother Criostoir to join them on bass. And with drummer Erik returning from a self imposed drying out period in Minnesota just at the right time, Ciaran finished his ideal line-up by politely pinching guitarist Adam from another local band.
The first fruits of their labours have now become the four tracks that make up the "Loaded" EP. Released on the 17th of April. Blending a love of English literate pop with a US sense of dynamic, the EP takes in the straight anthemic pop of "Loaded" itself, alongside the more sedate "Queen of Air and Darkness", the grooves of "The Fall" and the rockabilly pace of "Sunshine On The Tenements". Taken as a whole, the EP is an excellent first taste for The Idle Hands debut album, due later in the year.
The band make their first foray to the UK in April, calling at the following venues:
Wednesday 19th April - London, Camden Barfly
Thursday 20th April - London, The Metro
