The Envy Corps
The Envy Corps return to the UK from their native Iowa with a brand new single and a newly- completed album. 'Rhinemaidens', released on October 8th, is taken from the band's debut album, "Dwell", which is itself set for release in January 2008. The band, now settled in the glamorous confines of Streatham, will be setting exploring the rest of the country with shows throughout the next few months including a London residency at the Water Rats and support dates with the super hotly-tipped Hoosiers and Milburn.
Written in the shower (really!) by vocalist Luke Pettipoole, "Rhinemaidens" is built around a surging riff with Luke's vocals building into anthemic melodies, displaying The Envy Corps' cunning way of ignoring a traditional song structure to produce their own unique sound. As with the album, the listener is, right from the start, in for an epic ride that demands attention and on repeated plays reveals new magic every time.
The Envy Corps are Luke Pettipoole (vocals/guitar/piano), David Yoshimura (bass), Scott Yoshimura (drums) and Brandon Darner (guitar). Luke and David founded the band in the Midwestern town of Ames, Iowa, various personnel changes eventually led to the group that stands before you now, with David's brother Scott joining the fold on drums and finally the addition of Brandon.
The Envy Corps have made available a free download bundle in run up to the forthcoming release of their next single, Rhinemaidens on October 8th. The free downloads are 'Sylvia (The Beekeeper)', 'Walls' and 'M. Gatewood'.
