The Cribs rocker Ryan Jarman is "lucky to be alive" after seriously wounding himself at the NME Awards in London last month (FEB06). The British star was left with a deep glass cut around his left hip when he dived across a table covered in bottles in a bid to retrieve Franz Ferdinand's Best Live Band Award from members of Kaiser Chiefs. Jarman says, "The doctors said I'm lucky to be alive. I had no idea that anything was wrong until I put my hand on my back and my fingers slipped inside. "When something's that deep, it severs all of the nerve endings so I didn't feel it. It seemed a good idea at the time and it still does. "I don't regret it at all. I walked out of the treatment room and I saw Duncan - but his injury was a lot more comedy than mind. He broke his arm arm-wrestling, that's a weird thing to do." Jarman wasn't the only musician injured that night - Maximo Park guitarist Duncan Lloyd broke his arm at a hotel party following the bash.
