Dawn - who revealed the pair are considering a summer 2012 wedding - explained that Irish actor Chris proposed with an emerald ring.
She told the Guernsey Press: "The Ring is gorgeous - an emerald, as he is Irish, and green to replace a green ring of my mum's that I have worn on that hand since I was 16.
"I was very surprised, but not a single part of me thought to say no, so that's a good start. We went straight to the pub, the Ship and Crown for a bottle of champagne and a cottage pie.
"There's lots to think about. But I have a book to write before July 1 so I need to stay in control of my excitement and get that done too."
