The Clash's Paul Simonon has unveiled a new clothing range.

The bass player and Sailor Jerry have teamed up to create The Flash Collection, a series of annual collaborations between the rum brand and like-minded artists inspired by the legendary tattoo flash of Norman 'Sailor Jerry' Collins.

Paul will design and create three limited-edition pieces - a leather jacket, a T-shirt and a neckerchief - by combining Collins' iconic flash artwork with his own signature design style, and he is enjoying the prospect of combining his love of art and garments.

He said: ''I've always admired Norman Collins' art. He was a real original and his designs were the template for many other tattooists.

''It's the first time I've done a collaboration and combining art and clothes design is right up my street'.''

Enda O'Sullivan, Global Brand Director for Sailor Jerry, said: ''Having Paul Simonon partner with Sailor Jerry on the first of The Flash Collection series is both humbling and very exciting.

''Paul is not only a musical legend, but a talented visual artist, whose attitude couldn't be more allied to what Sailor Jerry stands for. And it sets the bar very high for future collaborations.''

Paul's pieces will be available in a handful of selected stores around the world and on www.sailorjerryclothing.com, in September 2013. To watch a video of Paul talking about the new range, visit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GS6GEA9QaLM&feature=youtu.be
