The Bees release ‘Chicke n Payback’ on EMI Records. You can hear a lot of influences on this track from black artists like The Meters, James Brown to British acts like The Rolling Stones. There’s definitely a fusion of jazz, blues, funk and country coming through on ‘Chicken Payback’ and it’s got a seriously good feel to it. The Bees use a full band that is well orchestrated and the music has an infectious, groovy very old school sound. No instrument is overpowering any other, they all seem to fit very well to keep you entertained and captivated. The lyrics are fun with a nice sing along vibe that is performed well.
All in all this is a class track that should appeal to many. It’s very laid back and has a non offensive pleasantness to it. It captures an old school energy that is positive and should send you straight back to the sixties or seventies. I can see trendy students jiving to this and if you are a fan of The Zutons I’m sure you’ll like it
