the bachelor aired its season finale on Monday evening (Monday 12, 2012), with Sonoma winemaker Ben Flajnik proposing to the model Courtney Robertson. Ben opted to pop the question to Robertson, though fans of the show appeared to have been rooting for business development manager Lindzi Cox in the lead up to the finale, reports People Magazine.

At the beginning of Monday's show, filmed in Switzerland, Ben still appeared to be indecisive, saying, "I'm not sure how this is going to end", but by the final few minutes he appeared to have made up his mind. Standing in front of Courtney with the majestic Matterhorn mountain in the background, Ben told Courtney, "What a journey. It's been an incredible road getting to this point with you. But I promised myself that I wouldn't get down on one knee again unless I was certain it was forever, and I want to tell you that you are my forever. You are my forever. And I have waited a really, really long time - a really, really long time to tell you that I'm in love with you more than you'll ever know and that this whole experience and journey has been worth it every step of the way". Robertson had trouble fighting back the tears as Ben asked, "Will you marry me?". The model screamed "Oh my god" as she was presented with a diamond engagement ring, saying "Yes, of course I will. I love you so much. Oh my gosh, Ben. Beautiful. I love it. I will love you forever".

The credits rolled as the pair exchanged kisses, with Robertson added, "Oh my god, this ring is heavy". The model has played the role of the villain on this year's show and has been heavily criticized by the former contestants for her sly behavior.
