The Avengers has enjoyed the biggest superhero movie opening in British cinema history after taking $25 million (£16 million) at the U.K. box office.
The blockbuster also recorded two further British record-breaking accolades after its impressive haul over the weekend (27-29Apr12) - it's the biggest Disney three-day opening and the biggest one-day taking for a Disney film ever ($9 million/£5.5 million).
And it cemented its place as the highest-earning superhero movie of all time by pulling in more cash during its first four days than rivals The Hulk, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Thor took in their entire British run.
The Avengers also scored the second biggest weekend opening in U.K. cinema history - just behind Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which took $26 million (£16.5 million) following its release in 2007.
The Avengers stars Robert Downey, Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth.
