Terrence Howard's wife has reportedly filed for divorce after only one year of marriage.

Production worker Michelle Ghent, 33, cited "irreconcilable difference" as the reason for leaving the 'Iron Man' actor according to gossip website TMZ.

The couple secretly wed in January 2010 in Los Angeles – but Terrence let slip about his marital status whilst promoting Nelson Mandela biopic 'Winnie', when he said he was glad to be at the Cannes Film Festival "with his wife".

Michelle is reportedly asking for spousal support and for Terrence to pay her legal fees.

This will be the 41-year-old Oscar-winning star's second divorce, as he split with Lori McCommas – with whom he has three children - in 2003 before remarrying her in 2005 and splitting up again.

He was arrested in 2001 for a variety of charges related to a violent attack on Lori, including simple assault, terrorist threats, harassment and stalking.

In 2002 he pleaded guilty to the assault.
