Biography

Temples (2012)

Temples are an English psychedelic rock band best known for their singles 'Mesmerise' and 'Shelter Song'. Its members currently consist of James Bagshaw (lead singer and guitarist), Thomas Warmsley (bassist), Adam Smith (keyboardist and rhythm guitarist), and Samuel Toms (drummer).

Formation: Formed in 2012, Warmsley and Bagshaw, had originally been in rival bands and known each other for years in their hometown of Kettering. The two later worked together in The Moons whilst Bagshaw had other music history with bands such as the Lightning Seeds. Bagshaw also co-fronted a Kettering band Sukie whose debut single 'Pink-A-Pade' reached the number one spot in the UK Indie Chart. Temples later started out as a home studio project with Bagshaw and Warmsley. After uploading their first four tracks to YouTube they caught the eye of Heavenly Recordings founder Jeff Barrett, who allowed Temples to release their debut single 'Shelter Song' through his label in November 2012. Fellow Kettering-based drummer Samuel Lloyd Toms and keyboardist Adam Smith were then recruited in order to create a band that could play live. 'Colours to Life' - Temples' second single' - was launched in June 2013.

Musical Career: Frontman Bagshaw later told Sound of Boston in an interview that their recording process had not been changed by signing on to Heavenly Records. He also stated that the group found it difficult to choose which tracks to release as singles. 'Mesmerise' was eventually selected for release as a single due to its catchy melodies and consequent likelihood of commercial success.

Following performances at major UK and European festivals and supporting acts such as Kasabian and The Vaccines, the band announced that their debut UK tour would take place in October 2013. February 2014 saw the release of Temples' debut album Sun Structures, which charted at number seven in the UK Albums charts and was followed by a tour of Europe, North America and Australia. The group appeared on US television for the first time on the 30th July to perform 'Shelter Song' on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, and later in September on the Ellen Degeneres show.

Ex-Oasis guitarist and musician Noel Gallagher has criticised UK radio stations, especially BBC Radio 1, for the relative lack of airplay Temples receive as he is known to be a fan of the group.

Leeds Festival 2014 - Preview

Here we go, here we go! Leeds Festival 2014, yet only half of us have scored a return ticket from the headaches and hangovers of last year's epic line-up. Each and every year, thousands of people across the social spectrum and across the UK flock to the fields of Leeds for what they know is THE music event of the year. Of course, catering to the masses is no easy feat but with ten stages all rigged up, this machine, emblem of the north, once again raises its flags way up heavens bound.Moving from Temple Newsam a few years back now, LF has really made itself at home within the colossal 1,235 acre grounds of Bramham park. Returning bands themselves (or the newcomers for that matter), facing glorious deja-vu on approach to the site if not already attended as rowdy teens, are in for a real good show.

Leeds Festival 2014 - Preview

With the festival being such an icon and in itself evolving in sheer mass and motor each year, it's understandably hard to really get a good hold-down on the lineup. With time clashes, mud, bar queues and a serious lack of phone battery, it's only fair we deal out a helping hand of this year's 'Not To Be Missed' sets to make festival life a little easier.

In no preferential order at all.

Austin Psych Fest 2014 Logo

Shield your eyes as Austin's most vibrant music festival marks its seventh year from May 2nd-4th 2014. With The Zombies, The Horrors and Temples on this unique bill, are we looking at Austin Psych Fest's best year yet?

Founded in 2008, the Austin Psych Fest started off as a tiny event; a one day blast of sensational independent bands at The Red Barn venue. It took just one year for it to expand into three whole days of psychedelic magic and will this year take place at the Carson Creek Ranch playing host to some of the most well respected bands of the genre in the business. We've had six years so far of this inimitable energy and with old lucky number seven comes a line-up that is arguably the festival's most interesting yet.

SXSW Festival

South by Southwest Music Festival (SXSW) is widely known as THE festival for emerging musical talent with artists both established and up-and-coming flocking from around the globe to Austin, Texas to offer the musical experience of a lifetime to eager festival goers. Having begun in 1987, the weekend event has seen some exciting acts, virtually all of which have shot to international recognition since their slot on the SXSW bill - and very deservedly.

It's a huge opportunity for fledgling bands across the world with such a vast line-up that takes over the whole of Austin for over a week. Unlike most festivals were an artist has to be signed or at least have an agent to feature in the line-up, SXSW does a great job at embracing unsigned talent. The weekend even sees dozens of secret gigs dotted around the city as no-one is ever quite sure of who is and who isn't playing. Prince, Arcade Fire and Jay-Z are just a few of many who have surprised and delighted event goers with their unexpected appearances, so make sure you keep an eye out this year. For now though, we're excited to give you ten top acts from across the planet that are well worth your time this March.

Temples - Hare & Hound Birmingham June 2013 Live Review 2013

A night in Birmingham normally ends up being a good night, even more so if you are down at the Hare and Hound for a gig. This pub is full to the rafters tonight with a uni-cycle act currently on upstairs in one of the rooms, a pub quiz going on in another and the main room filling up with people looking forward to seeing Temples in what is a sell-out show. This pub is a gem in itself and from previous experiences the room where the music shows are is brilliant bringing up the subject that this venue should surely be given a go in the Jack Daniels bid to find the best small venues in the UK.

Temples - Live Review

Tonight is a night where you are actually thankful that the main act are not coming on until 10 because it is still warm outside and the beers are flowing adding to what should be good show. The venue has its reputation of good sound quality and the hype surrounding Temples is ever increasing and expectations are high.

'Sun Structure' starts the night and straight away with an infectious sound of the 60s and what adds to the atmosphere are the smoke machines blowing all over the band. The band sound awesome but the crowd seem subdued and not really up for it.

Exclusive Paul Weller Gig Planned At Rough Trade For Record Store Day

Paul Weller The Strypes Temples

Record Store Day (Saturday April 20, 2013) is the day when sport and music retail collide. If you consider ‘competitive vinyl purchasing’ a sport, of course. A veritable one-day Olympics for music nerds and vinyl enthusiasts, Record Store Day is a pretty sophisticated feat of organisation – where record labels, stores, gig promoters and artists across the world combine to create a smorgasbord of exclusive releases, limited editions and one-off performances and collaborations. Frankly, the very thought of it is enough to make you weep. Pity the poor music fan that arrives outside their local record store 3 hours before it opens, only to discovers that their retail rivals have all been camping over night… Or the nerd that queues patiently at the record store counter, only to see the last of those limited edition, screen-printed, green vinyl gatefold go to the pushy dude in front. Record Store Day. It’s stressful.

Luckily, to take away from the stress of it all, there are also some fun things occurring, to lower the heart rate a little. Paul Weller will be performing live at London’s Rough Trade record store in East London, for a start (8pm, Saturday). He’ll be joined by Pete O’Hanlon and Josh McClorey of new band The Strypes as well as Miles Kane’s drummer, Jay Sharrock, NME report.

Two much-hyped British bands, Toy and Temples will be playing in Paris (they call it Disquare Day because they’re hipper than we’ll ever be, you know). They’ll be joined by Stealing Sheep and Charlie Boyer and the Voyeurs.
