Teleman are an indie four-piece band from London, UK. Its members include Thomas Sanders (singer, guitarist), Jonny Sanders (synths), Pete Cattermoul (bassist) and Hiro Amamiya (drummer). They are best known for their debut single 'Cristina'.
Formation: Teleman started off as the indie pop band Pete and the Pirates who are best known for their track 'Mr.Understanding'. After seven years of playing together, the quintet disbanded, and brothers Thomas and Jonny Sanders as well as bassist Peter Cattermoul went on to create the trio Teleman - the name deriving from the classical composer Telemann. The new band's sound became more focused and mechanical and many instantly connected them with the electronic group Kraftwerk. Known as a product of the indie genre's transformation to the more brainy groups of Alt-J and Django Django, classic rock'n'roll lyrical topics and themes are still maintained but are conveyed in a different way to earlier groups.
Musical Career: The group's debut single Cristina came out in January 2013 and immediately drew connotations with bands from the likes of the Beach Boys and the Velvet Underground. Produced by Bernard Butler and released by the Moshi Moshi Singles Club, the song was backed by the guitar-led track 'In Your Fur'. July 2013 saw the release of Teleman's next single - 'Steam Train Girl' - released through Encona Records. Teleman's debut album Breakfast came out in May 2014, and received generally mediocre reviews from the likes of The Guardian and NME magazine. 'Strange Combinations' was a one-off single that came out in 2015 and was sold exclusively through Speedy Wunderground.
