Ted Williams, a homeless Ohio man who became an Internet sensation last week (ends07Jan11) thanks to his remarkable radio voice, has agreed to put his broadcasting career on hold and enter rehab after a heart-to-heart chat with TV doctor Phil Mcgraw.
Williams has been inundated with pitch man offers since a Cleveland, Ohio TV reporter caught the recovering addict speaking on camera and put the footage online.
Williams has been on a whistle-stop tour of radio and TV news shows ever since, but his overnight fame has taken its toll on his health and prompted him to start drinking again.
In a televised chat with Dr. Phil, which will air in America on Thursday (13Jan11), Williams told the self-help guru he had sought comfort in alcohol during his hectic stay in Los Angeles and he agreed to enter a private treatment facility for his addiction.
Williams was joined by members of his family on the show and they discussed the recent altercation which prompted Los Angeles police to arrest the new star and his daughter.
MCGraw says, "If Ted is ever going to get better, he's got to be honest with himself and admit he's addicted to drugs and alcohol.
"I've told him it's not going to be easy and it's going to take a lot of hard work. It might be a long journey for him, but this is a big step in the right direction."
