Popular country musician Taylor Swift has revealed she will be contributing the track 'Safe and Sound' to the soundtrack of the 2012 Lionsgate movie The Hunger Games.
The film, which stars Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence is set in the future, where children are selected to fight to the death, live on television. The movie is likely to be one of the biggest releases of 2012, though the soundtrack is shaping up to be just as anticipated. Speaking to Twitter followers on Thursday evening (December 22, 2011), the country star said, "Something I've been Very excited about for a Very long time is going to be happening Very soon", before revealing that the previously unheard 'Safe and Sound' would be gracing the Hunger Games soundtrack - the song's title was inevitably trending worldwide soon after. The track, also featuring vocals from The Civil Wars, emerged online later on Thursday and features an acoustic intro with Taylor singing, "Just close your eyes The sun is going down You'll be all right No one can hurt you In the morning light You and I'll be safe and sound".
The score and soundtrack for The Hunger Games is being devised by Danny Elfman and T Bone Burnett. The movie hits cinemas on March 23, 2012.
