Taylor Swift has topped the Top 40 Money Makers List on Billboard. Taylor Swift has made the most money by an artist or band in the past year, according to Billboard.
It's thought that Swift earned just over $35.7 million which is 17% more than last year's top money-maker, Lady GaGa. In the list U2 came second with £32 million, whilst Kenny Chesney, Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne completed the top five. The rankings have all been based on the US income that has been collected from album sales, royalties and tours. Generally, it was the country artists that dominated the list, as eleven of them appeared in the 40 slots. This included Zac Brown Band, Keith Urban and Lady Antebellum.
Other artists that made the top 40 list included Katy Perry, THE GLEE CAST, Elton John, Britney Spears and Adele. The latter was number 10 on the list because even though she had to cancel most of her US tour due to having needed surgery on her vocal cords, Adele's '21' sold more than 5 million units in 2011.
22 year-old Swift sold more than 1.8 million copies of her albums in 2011 and sold 7.8 million digital tracks in the past year. This was joined by a worldwide tour consisting of 89 shows, grossing $88.5 million only in the US, and profiting $29.8 million.
