It has been announced that Taylor Swift will play at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards next month (September 2012). It's no surprise for the young country star, who has topped pretty much every rich list, best-sellers list and awards ceremony gong-count going in the last twelve months. The 22 year-old has been added to the bill of performers, alongside Green Day, Pink, Alicia Keys and One Direction and Mtv have revealed today (August 21, 2012) that Swift will be performing a new song, from her forthcoming album, Red at the Vma's.
There have been a number of dissatisfied grumblings doing the rounds online that Lady GaGa is not performing as she has done on previous occasions but Taylor seems like an obvious choice of performer, given the monumental success that she has found this year, including her double win at the Grammy Awards at the start of the year. Drake and Rihanna lead the field of award nominations, with five nods each, one of which is for their collaborative track 'Take Care.' Katy Perry has also received four nominations and Justin Bieber and One Direction have two nominations.
Amongst the celebrities chosen to present awards on the night are Wiz Khalifa and Miley Cyrus. Also lined up to hand out the gongs are the members of the gold medal-winning US women's gymnastics team, Gabby Douglas, MCKayla Maroney, Alexandra Raisman, Kyla Ross and Jordyn Wieber. The host of the event will be the comedian KEVIN HART.
