Taylor Swift was already down to appear at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards , it had been previously announced, but what wasn't, was that she'd be giving the premiere for her forthcoming single We Are Never Getting Back Together on the show Mtv First: Taylor Swift the week before the awards. Swift will be on the show on August 30th, with the awards following on September 6th, and she'll then be performing the song at the awards themselves live.
A couple of weeks ago, Swift unveiled her new album Red to a gathering of fans in Nashville, Tennessee. Talking to the crowd, she said "I have some really big news. I'm really excited because I have a new album coming out October 22 and I wanted to tell you about it and I wanted to tell you all about it right now," she added, which ensured loud cheers. "We've already done so much work on this, we've been working on it for two years."
As for the song itself, Swift has been coy about who the title might be aimed at, with the star's songs having a history of dealing with her love life and past relationships, including most famously verbally beating down John Mayer in the track Dear John. The video was shot in one continuous take, with one camera and no edits.
