Taylor Swift became the most recent celebrity to be asked on a date by a fan, with 18-year-old footballer player Kevin MCGuire asking the singer-songwriter if she'd like to accompany him to his high school prom in New Jersey. MCGuire - who is suffering from leukaemia - initially received a 'no' from Taylor, but it seems the award-winning musician had an even better idea in mind.
According to Msnbc.com, MCGuire had been told he had beaten the leukaemia, but eventually found himself back in hospital for bone marrow biopsies, spinal taps and chemotherapies. One day, the 18-year-old was sitting at home with his sister when they decided he should ask Swift to the prom on June 1, 2012. He said, "I thought of someone who is strong and confident and who will make me feel like I belong there that night. Someone who's beautiful and gorgeous". Kevin said Taylor's song 'You Belong With Me' is one of his favourite ever tracks, adding, "You see all the other celebrities just on the news about being in jail and on drugs and all that kind of stuff. But Taylor is just a great girl and a positive role model". MCGuire sister's eventually launched a Facebook campaign in a bid to catch Swift's attention, and it worked perfectly, with the singer posting, "Kevin, I'm sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom. But I was wondering. The Acm (Academy of County Music) Awards are coming up. Would you be my date? Love, Taylor".
