Taylor Swift has once again proved herself to be the nicest person in pop as she granted a young Australian fan her wish to meet her idol before losing her hearing. Swift organised a meet-up backstage before her gig in Sydney on Saturday (November 28th).

According to local news outlet The Maitland Mercury, 12 year old Jorja Hope was diagnosed with an irreversible condition that causes progressive inner-ear hearing loss. The paper reports that the girl’s reaction when she learned of her diagnosis was “I won’t be able to hear Taylor Swift sing.”

Jorja’s twin sister Chloe launched an online campaign when she learned of her sibling’s condition, knowing that one of her wishes was to meet Swift. Stating that Jorja has no idea how long it will take for her hearing to disappear entirely (it could be as early as next year), Chloe began #HelpJorjaMeetTaylorSwiftSydney, which eventually caught the attention of Sydney radio station Nova 96.9.

The station approached Swift and, like she’s done for so many fans suffering from illness during her 1989 World Tour, the star agreed to meet Jorja backstage, before the two sisters watched the gig at the ANZ Stadium in the city.

Things like this happen to other people, not to people like us,” Jorja’s mother, Melissa, told an Australian talk show the day afterward, reports Us Weekly. “It’s been a fairy tale.”

“Jorja has battled her whole life from being born preemie with growth problems, to surgeries on her ears already and five surgeries for broken bones. She is a fighter. No matter what happens, she smiles and keeps going.

“She was very, very amazing and very pretty,” young Jorja said after having met her idol in person. “I didn’t expect her to be as tall as she was.”
