The Shake It Off hitmaker gave the sum to 11-year-old leukaemia sufferer Naomi Oakes to cover her medical expenses via a page set up on GoFundMe.com by the youngster's family.

Swift had to pay the money in three instalments of $15,000 (£9,400) and one of $5,000 (£3,100) because the website has capped donations at $15,000 (£31,250).

GoFundMe Chief Executive Officer Rob Solomon has now announced that Swift's generosity has led to a policy change, and donors will now be able to give up to $50,000 at a time.

A statement posted on the site reads, "Taylor Swift's donation was so generous that it required us to increase the donation limit on the platform... GoFundMe's previous donation limit was set at $15,000, but has now been increased to $50,000. There are never any limits on how much a campaign can raise. Including gifts to other campaigns, Taylor Swift has given more than any other donor in GoFundMe history. Solomon added, 'What Ms. Swift has done for Naomi and others can inspire the next generation of giving."
