An intruder rooting through Taye Diggs' garage got quite the fright on Sunday evening (January 27, 2013) when the man himself returned home from the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Diggs and wife Idina Menzel arrived back at their Los Angeles home at 11.20pm, though the Private Practice suspected all was not right.
After wandering into his garage, Taye discovered the burglar, Hassan Juma, who attempted to flee. Needless to say, he didn't get very far and was detained by the actor until cops arrived. "The suspect tried to run away, but [Diggs] chased him down the street and was able to detain him until police arrived," LAPD spokesman Richard French told People magazine, "At this time, I don't know exactly what he did to the suspect to detain him." Juma, 20, was arrested and charged with burglary though pleaded not guilty in court. Superior Court spokeswoman Patricia Kelly said Juma entered the plea on Tuesday afternoon and will return to court on February 8, 2013. Though being caught in a garage that isn't yours seems pretty damning evidence to us, Juma clearly thinks he can get out of this one. If convicted he faces six years in prison.
At the SAG's, Digg and Cougar Town actress Busy Phillips had handed out the award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a drama series to Claire Danes, of Homeland. He and wife Menzel later danced to the beats of DJ Pesce at the official after-party.

Taye Diggs had an eventful night on Sunday (January 27, 2013) and not just because he attended the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The Private Practise star found himself playing the hero when he returned home from the awards ceremony, where he had been presenting, when he found an intruder at his Los Angeles abode.
Diggs returned home to find the 20 year old man, Hassan Omar Juma in the garage on his property and according to Fox News, chased the man, catching him and detaining him. When the police arrived, Juma was arrested and reportedly charged with first-degree felony residential burglary. He has now been jailed, in lieu of $50,000 bail. Hassan Omar Juma faces trial this afternoon (January 30, 2013) in a Los Angeles courtroom. If he is convicted, he faces up to six years in prison.
Taye gave no indication of the drama that had unfolded at his home, on his Twitter page. Before he headed to the awards ceremony, he shared his excitement with his followers, saying “Yup. Headed to the SAG awards w the lovely @idinamenzel. Presenting w @busyphillips. These things can be so much fun...” and later on, he said how much fun he’d had: “Dee felt bloated, but I had a blast. Dylan Dog is a private investigator unlike no other. Based in New Orleans, Dylan is more of a paranormal investigator than a normal detective and his clients are somewhat of a specialist field, most of them are dead; and if they do have some form of pulse, they're certainly not of human.

While not quite a Matrix replica, writer/director Kurt Wimmer's Equilibrium duplicates too many elements from its sci-fi predecessor to ignore the comparison. The film inhabits a Huxley-inspired fascist future society where emotions are chemically suppressed. World leaders believe it helps prevent global warfare. If love and happiness are sacrificed in the process, so be it.

This is not to say that violence can't be stylish or clever. Movies like Pulp Fiction have proven that a gun can be poetry. Or it can just be a gun. Writer/director Christopher McQuarrie (best known for writing The Usual Suspects; Gun is his directorial debut) has set out to make a Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid for the millennium. From its all-bad-guys cast (except for the girl) to the arch, black comedy to a south of the border shootout, the homage is pretty sincere. Too bad it didn't quite work out.
