There was an audible creaking to be heard at the San Diego Comic-Con; what was it, the straining of the Convention Center as it struggled to hold the thousands passing through its doors? Maybe a particularly well-polished floor? The answer was neither! It was, of course, action film heroes and gnarly veterans Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzennegger walking in to take their place for a panel about their new film 'The Expendables 2'.
Proving a surprise success in 2010, the original 'Expendables' saw a host of old action stars dusted off and oiled all in the name of big explosions and the pursuit of a high body count. Stallone and Schwarzennegger were joined by Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren to name just four, providing fans of 80s and 90s action films something of a feast. The follow-up promises more of the same, and the two were all smiles as they spoke to fans at the Comic-Con.
"The first one was more searching for what was going to work. Is it more dramatic, comedic? But on the second one, you find out what works from the first one, and you try to amplify it," Stallone told the packed out crowd. "You have the same playbook ... if you have it all together, the second one can surpass the first one, and I think we achieved that."
