Sylvester Stallone jokes the mercury poisoning he picked up by eating protein-packed shellfish for his role in Rocky, has left him permanently dumb.

The movie star insists the side effects of his strict boxing diet for the 1976 film has led to him making terrible film choices in recent years.

He explains, "I didn't realise that they (shellfish) eat bad things down there - they're like God's little crawling bedpans so what happened is I got mercury poisoning and I started listening to bluegrass music, walking backwards.

"I don't think I rebounded yet, quite frankly. There has been a lot of like RHINESTONE... You can see I'm still in the mentally challenged state."
