Suge Knight has been arrested on assault and drug charges after being allegedly "violently beating" his girlfriend.
The Death Row Records founder, real name Marion, was jailed after punching an unnamed woman while holding a knife, following a minor traffic accident in Las Vegas.
He was also charged with two drug offences having been found in the possession of ecstasy and the prescription painkiller Hydrocodone.
The 43-year-old was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Centre near Las Vegas, and is scheduled to appear in court on September 26th.
The female victim's name and age have not yet been confirmed but she identified herself as Knight's girlfriend, a police official said.
It is believed Knight punched the woman in the head while they were arguing as he drove his car
"In an effort to escape she grabbed the steering wheel and steered it to the curb," the spokesperson said.
"That's when she got out of the car and tried to run and he caught up to her."
Knight, the music mogul behind the careers of Tupac Shakur, Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg, has had numerous run-ins with the law, including drug offences and probation violations.
He has now been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, battery domestic-violence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription.
