Tv Via The Internet? It Will Have To Wait
Plans announced by Intel and Sony to deliver broadcast and cable networks to subscribers over the Internet have been scaled back and delayed, the New York Times reported today, suggesting that they may never come to fruition. Intel's OnCue, which reportedly will record three days of programming on every channel, giving subscribers the opportunity to watch any program whenever they wish on any device -- TV set, PC, tablet, or smartphone -- will miss its scheduled deployment in late 2013, the newspaper said. Intel execs, it indicated, have concluded that OnCue will have to sign up five million subscribers during its first three years of existence in order to cover rights payments to the broadcast and cable networks.
