Tracey Emin - Tracey Emin's Bed To Go Under The Hammer
Tracey Emin's iconic messy bed art installation is expected to fetch as much as $1.9 million (£1.2 million) when it goes under the hammer this summer (14).
The controversial artwork, a replica of the bed where Emin reportedly spent a week after a bad break-up, launched her career and caused uproar when it was named as a contender for the 1999 Turner Prize. Emin was beaten to Britain's top art award by filmmaker Steve MCQueen.
The installation, which features a soiled bed sheet, vodka bottles and cigarette butts, was bought by art collector Charles Saatchi for $240,000 (£150,000) in 2000, and is now set to go on sale at Christie's Auction house in London among with other pieces from his collection.
The piece is expecting to fetch between $1.3 million (£800,000) and $1.9 million (£1.2 million).
