Tlc - Tlc Don't Own The Rights To Left Eye's Music

The surviving members of Tlc had no choice but to omit Lisa 'left Eye' Lopes' original rap from a new recording of their classic hit Waterfalls because they do not own the rights to her masters.

Tionne 'T-Boz' Watkins and Rozanda 'Chilli' Thomas recently came under fire by the rapper's relatives after recruiting Japanese R&B star Namie Amuro to sing in the place of their late bandmate to mark their 20th anniversary.

Lopes' mother was said to be "hurt" by the duo's decision to cut the tragic star from its signature tune, 11 years after Left Eye was killed in a car crash in Honduras - but Watkins and Thomas insist that wasn't the case.

Thomas reveals Tlc had multiple requests to use Lopes' verse denied and tells Tmz.com, "We were forced to use (this) creative way to honour Lisa's memory and celebrate this milestone with the fans."

In a joint statement, the pair adds, "We have and always will protect our sister's legacy as Tlc consists of the three of us collectively... there will never be a replacement for Lisa or any members in Tlc."

According to Tmz, Thomas and Watkins reached out to Lopes' brother, Ron, before deciding to include the re-worked version of Waterfalls on their greatest hits album Tlc 20, which was recently released in Japan.

At press time, it was not yet clear who owns the recording rights to Lopes' masters.

TLC Criticises Rihanna's "Booby Cakes" Costume - 'We Kept Our Clothes On' 4232632 News

Rihanna has responded to TLC's comments about her brazen and bare breasted appearance at Monday (2nd June) night's CFDA awards.

RihannaRihanna's dress has certainly prompted discussion.

The 26-year-old appeared wearing a lilac coloured, embellished dress which left very little to the imagination. The dress was see-through ensuring everyone (including the awaiting paparazzi) got a good look at Rihanna's backside and breasts. Her little modestly was protected by a tiny pair of knickers and a small fur stole.

Rihanna's dress and matching hat certainly caused a sensation with many publications and her own fans commenting on her daring fashion decision. Those who commented included girl group TLC, consisting of Tionne 'T-Boz' Watkins and Rozonda 'Chilli' Thomas. As MTV reports, the pair recently spoke to an Australian journalist ahead of their Sydney concert. When asked about Rihanna's appearances, the group stated they had never resorted to taking their clothes off and had been highly successful.

44-year-old T-Boz addressed Rihanna saying "Every time I see you, you don't have to be naked. It's hard for us to say anything because any time we do, they say, 'Oh TLC must be jealous', but I call a spade a spade." 43-year-old Chilli also made a comment, stating "We became the biggest selling girl group of all time with our clothes on and that says a lot. We could go around too with booby cakes out all day long."

Rihanna's fashion choice was in honour of the late Josephine Baker whose birthday was the following day. The 20's starlet frequently sported daring attire and this was one of the reasons some fashion editors chose to praise Rihanna's unconventional attire. Rihanna celebrated Baker's birthday and tweeted "Happy birthday to the late Josephine Baker! You have and will continue to inspire us women for decades to come!" She also attached a picture of Baker alongside her costume for the CFDA awards.

TLC's Chilli Denies That She is Dating Wayne Brady 4012802 News

"They've been down this road before, but now the timing is right," the source had told the magazine. "They've been friends for a long time, but the romance is a new thing."

Thomas and Brady were both at the same event, but it was because they were both being paid to be there. Brady was performing his improv, while Thomas's group TLC was performing. The witness also said the two were spotted holding hands at a different hotel after both their paid gigs were over.

A rep for Thomas told People any relationship between the two is strictly a friendship.

"They are not dating, they've never dated, they've only ever been friends, that's it," the rep said. "They had dinner together after New Year's because they were on the same show. They are old friends."

Crazy, Sexy, Cool: How Accurate Is VH1's New TLC Biopic 3916271 News

The VH1 biopic about 90s girl group TLC aired today and so far, the reviews aren’t the best. It’s great to take a trip down memory lane and of course, everyone 90s kids still have love for T-Boz, Left Eye and Chilli, but if you need your fix, the reviews say you should just stick to music videos.

TLC, iHeartRadio Festival
Chilli and T-Boz soldier on in the music industry.

"CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story" stars Keke Palmer, Lil' Mama and Drew Sidora as Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, Left Eye and T-Boz, respectively. According to Slate’s Willa Paskin, the three aren’t necessarily bad as TLC, but the biopic overall is erratic – “themes are picked up and tossed aside and haphazardly picked up again.”

Check out the biopic trailer, courtesy of the VH1 youtube channel, below.

<iframe width="636" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/2BamJ3eOrhQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Then again, the biopic did feature plenty of uncanny recreations of music videos and archive footage – enough to spark up some nostalgia for the good ol’ TLC days. Erratic might be the best way to portray the trio’s 20 years of constant ups and downs – the against-all-odds bancrupcy after selling 10 million records, Left Eye’s brushes with the law and eventually, her tragic death in a car accident. Most importantly, however, the film apparently doesn’t gloss over their music in favor of more tabloid-friendly aspects of the TLC story. It’s music above all that TLC set out to make – and the biopic puts their music front and center.

Honestly, the easy way out is to take off your clothes and sell sex,” T-Boz says, via NPR ”But we have proven and become the biggest American group with our clothes on. So, that says a lot."

TLC, MTV VMA
The film is erratic, but still a good choice for an evening of 90s nostalgia.

TLC Recall The Good Days, And The Bad, In Revealing VH1 Docu-Drama 'CrazySexyCool' 3914502 News

TLC were one of the biggest girl groups of their generation, not to mention one of the wildest and devil may care girl groups to take the pop world by storm. Their time together was often tumulus and eventually ended in tragedy with the passing of prominent band member Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes. A new VH1 docu-drama lifts the lid on their time together and what it was like to be the biggest group in the world.

Tionne 'T-Boz' WatkinsRozanda 'Chilli' Thomas
Tionne 'T-Boz' Watkins (L) and Rozanda 'Chilli' Thomas (R) arrive at the Wendy Williams Show earlier this month

CrazySexyCool will air on Monday, 21 October on VH1 and will chronicle TLC's success and the crazy ride they went on to reach the top, leaving few stones unturned as it explores the outrageous life of one of the 90's defining acts. Their story includes countless fall outs, battles with label executives, the media and the bottle, and numerous other misadventures that are too outrageous to be written. The docu-drama will no doubt shock even the biggest TLC fan, unaware of exactly how crazy the R&B group were.

The group are portrayed by Keke Palmer (as Rozanda 'Chilli' Thomas), Drew Sidora (Tionne 'T-Boz' Watkins) and Lil Mama (Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes), with Rochelle Aytes as Perri 'Pebbles' Reid, the founder of Pebbitone, the label that discovered and gave TLC to the world. All the cast act out their parts with gusto, especially the main three, who bring life and believability to the infamous girl group.

Some of the more outrageous moments from the trio's career included in CrazySexyCool include the time the three girls stormed into record boss Clive Davis' office, flanked by some of the roughest friends from the hood, and demanded back payment from some of the profit their music earned. But as the self-declared craziest member of the crazy girl group, Lopes take up much of the screen time with her many infamous moments.

Take the time she went behind her bandmate's backs to demand they they each release a solo album to see which one the public loves the most. Of course, the time she became an arsonist also makes the grain, as the well-documented fallout with cheating hubby Andre Rison ended in Lopes burning his house to the ground. This, and her subsequent magazine photo shoot that featured her with a fire hose between her legs, are dramatised for the show. The girl's numerous run ins with a great deal of "scrubs" - like the one they warn against in their hit 1999 single - are also prevalent in the show.

But things aren't all high octane entertainment, as some of the most serious incidents of the trio's time together are detailed in the docu-drama. T-Boz’s struggle sickle cell anemia is given ample screen time as is Chilli's abortion and a few other misguided pregnancies from within the group. Lisa Lef Eye's behaviour isn't glamourised either; her childish outbursts that so often resulted in the rest of the girls being held hostage to her demands aren't sugarcoated, nor is her frequent battle with alcohol and drug addiction. Her death is also covered in the show, and is done so with dignity. It is these harsh truths that make the show such compulsive and revealing viewing.

CrazySexyCool will hit screens on Monday, 21 October, a day before the remaining band members will bring out their first new album in 11 years. The album, 20, will feature all of their previous hits as well as the new single 'Meant to Be.'

No More Scrubs! TLC Finally Release New Song 'Meant To Be' - Penned By Ne-Yo [Listen] 3899315 News

R&B girl group TLC have finally unveiled a new song taken from the group's forthcoming album, 20, which will be released in the next week. Co-written by singer Ne-Yo, 'Meant To Be' is a mid-tempo track based around acoustic pickings and 90s hiphoppers Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas and Tionne "T Boz" Watkins' distinctively soulful voices.

Yep, They're Still Wearing Those Black Leather Outfits.

The new album will be a compilation of the band's previous efforts and will relive the success of TLC hits such as 'No Scrubs,' 'Waterfalls,' 'Unpretty' and 'Creep.' The band played live for the first time in four years at Pennsylvania's Hershey Festival in July, with rapper Lil' Mama on board to fill in for Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes' verse and choreography, after the original TLC singer died in a car crash in 2002.

'Meant To Be' is the second TLC track to be released this year, with the group having featured on J Cole's 'Crooked Smile' in the summer. The new album will be the only album released from the band since 3D was released in 2002, soon after Left Eye's death.

The new track is also one of two brand new songs that are set to appear on 20, with 'Posh Life' also showcased on the new record. The song is written by Lady Gaga and long-time TLC collaborator, Dallas Austin. Chilli and T Boz recently attended the MTV VMAs awards show in New York and teased about the collaborators they've worked into their album of all-new material, expected in 2014.

"We might as well spice it up, have fun," said T Boz on the red carpet. The band are also promoting their upcoming biopic, in which Lil' Mama will take the role of Left Eye once more. Entitled CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story after their 1994 second album, the biopic will be aired on VH1.

Will Poulter loved Waterfalls rap in We're the Millers 3817128 News

Will Poulter had ''a lot of fun'' learning the lyrics to TLC's 'Waterfalls' for 'We're the Millers'.

The 20-year-old actor - who stars alongside Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis and Emma Roberts in the raunchy comedy - had the unenviable task of reciting Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes' entire rap verse from the hit 1995 song in one slapstick moment of the film, but says he thoroughly enjoyed preparing for the scene.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz at the UK premiere of the film in London's Leicester Square on Wednesday (14.08.13), he said: ''That was a lot of fun. I actually love rap music and I love TLC so I was very happy to do that.''

Poulter wasn't the only cast member with a tough scene, however, as co-star Aniston - who plays downtrodden stripper Rose in the flick - was challenged with performing a sexy strip, and director Rawson Marshall Thurber thinks she ''nailed it''.

He enthused: ''She had a choreographer named Denise Faye and they did a great job. Jen got in fantastic shape for it and learned the moves really well. She nailed it. It was 100 per cent Jen ... no body double.''

The director was joined on the special blue carpet by the film's stars, Aniston, Sudeikis and Poulter, as well as a host of celebrities including The Saturdays and Joey Essex.

'We're the Millers' is in cinemas on August 23.

Drake Stuns With Mind-Blowing OVO Fest Line-Up In Toronto 3802555 News

For the 16,000 fans who attended Drake's OVO Fest show in Toronto, the whole evening was full of perfect "I Was There" moments with appearances from the exalted lords and ladies of R&B and hiphop royalty.

With an acronym that stands for 'October's Very Own' (October referring to Drake's birth month), OVO Festival is an event that has seen success in recent years and looks to get even bigger still. Previous years have seen performances from Stevie Wonder, Snoop Lion, Eminem, Jay Z and Nicki Minaj but the Canadian rapper and organiser outdid himself at OVO Fest 2013.

The festival experiences issues early in the evening getting everybody in on time due to fans changing their two day tickets to single day ones after Frank Ocean's bad throat pull-out last week. This ticket mishap meant that hundreds of fans were left stuck outside the arena and missed the performances of singer James Blake and rapper Wale.

Dressed in a Canadian baseball shirt, Drake emerged to play 'Headlines' and said early on in the show, "I don't know if you can tell on my face, but I got some s*** for you tonight," performing "5 A.M In Toronto," and proceeding to welcome Big Sean and French Montana to help in perform songs such as 'Pop That' and 'Clique.'

Drake's Canadian heritage was a key focal point for the evening, as the performer spoke of his love and pride for Toronto "I remember when we were overlooked," he said, adding "Tonight we're gonna live these dreams together," as reported by Billboard.

They had been rumoured to be performing, but no one actually expected 1990s megastars TLC to make their OVO Fest debut. Drake welcomed Chilli and T-Boz onto the stage, "I'd like you to make some noise for the legendary TLC," and the leather-clad R&B stars (minus the deceased Left-Eye) delighted with hits 'Waterfall' and 'No Scrubs.'

The lights dazzling, the music majestic, the crowd frenzied; Kanye West came onstage to wild applause and broke into 'New Slave' before thanking Drake for pushing him in his career before Drake came along and reciprocated in kind.

Lil Wayne, one of the evening's final guests said "Before I leave the stage, can you make some noise for what this man has accomplished?...I'm happy to be a piece of this puzzle." "I love this city more than anything in the motherf******' world," yelled Drake before he bowed out to rapturous crowd noise with no encore needed.

Drake's upcoming album, Nothing Was The Same, will be released on 17th September.

Blast From The Past: TLC To Return With New Album and Tour 3782247 News

Nearly eleven years after the release of their last studio album, 3D, 90s RnB sensation TLC will be back later this year with a brand new album and a tour in support. The remaining members of the band - Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas – have signed a deal with Epic Records and will star in a VH1 biopic.

The girl group broke up in 2001, after the tragic death of the band’s third member – Lisa “Lefteye” Lopez. They have since gone on to produce a “greatest hits” album, but hadn’t actually reunited in the studio since 3D. During their hiatus, the remaining members of TLC hinted at a possible reality show in the future.

According to Billboard, the album was headed up by longtime producer Dallas Austin, and features new songs written by Lady Gaga and Ne-Yo and contributions from Drake and J. Cole. Clearly, TLC are aiming to modernize their sound for the comeback. In light of this, the choice to have rapper Lil’ Mama fill in for Lefteye during the band’s upcoming shows makes perfect sense. The first performance featuring the rapper will be at this weekend’s Mixtape Festival in Hersheypark, PA. The documentary is to follow on November 11. As for the album, no release date has been announced yet.
