Thor - Thor Sequel Thunders To The Top Of The U.s. Box Office

Thor has hammered the competition at the U.S. box office with an impressive $86 million (Gbp57 million) opening weekend.

Thor: The Dark World was the clear winner at cinemas landing the fourth biggest debut of 2013, behind fellow superhero movies Iron Man 3, Man of Steel and Fast & Furious 6.

Johnny Knoxville's comedy Bad Grandpa comes in a distant second on the new box office countdown, with an $11.3 million (Gbp7.5) weekend, while animated comedy Free Birds flies to three with $11.2 million (Gbp7.5 million).

Last Vegas and sci-fi fantasy Ender's Game round out the new top five.
