Six Sitcoms That Replaced Its Main Character. 'Cuckoo', Take Note 4066317 News

BBC3 comedy ‘Cuckoo’ has announced it is to replace star Andy Samberg with Twlight actor Taylor Lautner, giving the show a new main character. Replacing one of a show’s main cast members is always a tricky move and there’s no telling how viewer’s will react. We don’t want to burst ‘Cuckoo’s’ bubble but these six series show that replacing main stars is quite often a recipe for cancellation.

Spin City

Back in the mid 90s Michael J Fox’s career was enjoying a resurgence with his starring role as New York Deputy Mayor Mike Flaherty. However Fox was suffering from Parkinson’s disease and by 2000 his worsening symptoms forced him to leave the show after four seasons. Despite the loss of Fox and the show’s main producer and co-creator Bill Lawerence, the remaining producers decided to carry on and replace Fox’s character. Flaherty was written out, after taking the blame for the mayor’s mafia scandal, and new deputy Charlie Crawford took his place. Crawford was played by Charlie Sheen who, after a few scandals of his own, was rebuilding his career through television (we’ll see how that turned out later.) The show did have some success with Sheen but it eventually lost momentum and was cancelled after two seasons. Still the show is notable for being the first time tv viewers learnt that Sheen was incapable of playing a character not called Charlie.

The retro comedy that launched the careers of Ashton Kutcher, Wilmer Valderrama and Mila Kunis, went through a major shake-up in its final season. Grace and Kutcher left, leaving a void that writers filled with new character Randy, played by Madtv’s Josh Meyers. Randy didn't prove a hit with audiences and the show’s eighth season would be its last. The show’s final episode was set on December 31st 1979, thus waving goodbye to the season and the decade. Grace and Kutcher would both make appearances in the finale as the cast leave the Foreman’s basement for the final time.

Eight Simple Rules

Tragedy struck Eight Simple Rules when star John Ritter unexpectedly died of a heart attack during the filming of the show’s second season. Producers made the unusual decision of deciding to carry on and incorporating Ritter’s death into the storyline. David Spade and James Garner were brought in to play Katy Seigal’s character’s nephew and father respectively. The new cast saw the sitcom’s popularity wain and it was cancelled after its third season. Unfortunately the popular show was a victim of a unforeseeable tragedy that it could never fully recover from.

Two and a Half Men

Two and a Half Men

It’s entry number two for Charlie Sheen who got to see it from the other side this time, when he was replaced on ‘Two and a Half Men’. The story of what happened between Sheen and Warner Brothers executives is now infamous, and Sheen spent most of early 2011 making front page headlines because of it. In a nutshell, Sheen was fired from his role as Charlie (again, yes) Harper after he made derogatory comments about the show’s creator Chuck Lorre. The ensuing drama involved many viral videos, a machete and the coining of a new catchphrase, ‘winning’. Sheen was then replaced by Ashton Kutcher, which sadly didn't lead to an amazing That 70s Show-Spin City-Two and a Half Men crossover, instead Kutcher’s version is doing not too bad in the ratings as the show continues into its 11th season.

Scrubs

Scrubs

Zach Braff played J.D. on Scrubs who served as not only the show’s main character, but also its narrator, but after 8 seasons the actor handed over narrating duties to a new character, but stuck around for the transition. After six episode’s Braff left the new cast to fend for themselves and well, they didn't quite make it. Scrubs was unsurprisingly cancelled after the 9th season leaving it better left remembered with J.D.’s narration.

The Office

The Office

The American Office, or just The Office lost main actor Steve Carrell after its seventh season. He was replaced by former guest star James Spader. However after one season with Spader at the helm he departed, meaning even more cast changes for season 9. The show ended up playing out it’s final season focusing on established characters Pam, Jim and Dwight. Ratings fell after Carrell’s departure and although the show soldiered on for another two seasons, cancellation was inevitable. The show ended with an all star finale episode that saw Steve Carrell return to play Michael Scott one last time.

Taylor Lautner Cast In BBC Comedy 'Cuckoo', Replacing Andy Samberg 4065037 News

Taylor Lautner has landed a role in the BBC Three comedy Cuckoo, alongside Greg Davies and Helen Baxendale, according to BBC News. The 22 year-old American star, whose best-known role was the werewolf Jacob Black in the Twilight franchise, will replace the outgoing US comedian in the second series of the popular British comedy.

Taylor LautnerTaylor Lautner Has Landed A Role In The BBC Comedy, 'Cuckoo.'

Controller of BBC Three Zai Bennett said: "'Cuckoo' was one of BBC Three's most stand out comedies, so I'm delighted to welcome it back with the addition of superstar Taylor Lautner joining the critically acclaimed Greg Davies and an outstanding British comedy cast for what will be one of the comedy treats of the year," via Digital Spy.

Samberg played the unwanted son-in-law, Cuckoo, but will not return for the second series. We'll learn that Cuckoo disappeared after hiking in the Himalayas and, two years later, Rachel (Tamla Kari) has found new love with "a nice-but-dull lawyer."

Andy Samberg
Lautner Will Replace Andy Samberg, Who Played The Annoying Cuckoo In Series One.

Lautner won't be playing this lawyer though - instead he'll take the role of a "a handsome and mysterious young stranger" stranger who unexpectedly arrives to turn everyone's lives around in Lichfield.

Cuckoo, which launched in September 2012, was reportedly the biggest comedy launch in BBC Three's history. Indeed, the first series was a big hit, having earned two British Comedy Award nominations, but Samberg's attention has been devoted to his successful, Golden Globe-winning cop comedy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Greg Davies
Greg Davies, Star Of 'The Inbetweeners,' Will Return For A Second Series Of 'Cuckoo.'

Fans of the show worried that all Lautner will bring is a hunky physique and American charm needn't be worried: Taylor is a seasoned comedian, having hosted Saturday Night Live as well as having performed in the Live Read event at the LACMA for Boogie Nights.

Cuckoo's Executive producer Ash Atalla ('The Office,' 'The IT Crowd') spoke of his enthusiasm for further series of the show, saying "'Cuckoo' is one of my favourite shows I've ever been involved in. We can't wait to come back bigger and better."

There are no details yet regarding the premiere of the new Cuckoo series.

'Grown Ups 2' & 'After Earth' Lead The Way In 34th Razzie Award Nominations - Full List Of Nominees 4026626 News

It's awards season, which means it is the time when the stars of Hollywood gather together to congratulate themselves on another successful year of moviemaking. It is also the period when some of Hollywood's more questionable tastes are exposed and then routinely mocked, thanks to the annual Golden Raspberry Awards.

Grown Ups 2
All of the Grown Ups 2 cast are up for an award, but it is Sandler who earns the most recognition

An established 'favourite' with the Razzies committee, Adam Sandler is up for his 19th, 20th and 21st Razzie nomination and might make it three Worst Actor wins in a row, with his role in Grown Ups 2 up against Johnny Depp in The Lone Ranger, Ashton Kutcher in Jobs, Jaden Smith in After Earth and Sylvester Stallone for pretty much all of his movies from 2013; Bullet to the Head, Escape Plan, and Grudge Match.

Sandler's Grown Ups 2 leads the way in Razzie nominations, also being nominated for Worst Movie, Worst Supporting Actor for Taylor Lautner, Worst Supporting Actress for Salma Hayek, Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel, Worst Director for Dennis Dugan. Sandler earns two more nominations for his work on the screenplay with Tim Herlihy and Fred Wolf and for the rest of the cast, who all all nominated for Worst Screen Combo.

After Earth gets recognised considerably too, with Jaden Smith's Worst Actor nod being joined by nominations for Worst Picture, Worst Supporting Actor for Will Smith, Worst Screen Combo for the father and son team, Worst Director for M. Night Shyamalan and Worst Screenplay for Shyamalan, Gary Whitta and the elder Smith.

Lone Ranger
Johnny Depp's appearance in The Lone Ranger has been taken into consideration by the Razzie committee

Another firm favourite with the Razzies committee has to be Lindsay Lohan, who earns three nominations to go with her already stained resume. Her role in The Canyons has earned her a Worst Actress nod and both of her roles in InAPPropriate Comedy and Scary Movie 5, both films where she plays a version of herself, have managed to secure her a Worst Supporting Actress nomination. She is up for Worst Screen Combo with Charlie Sheen for Scary Movie 5.

The Canyons
Lohan's star turn in The Canyons has won her further recognition from the Razzies

Hoping not to have to see their names among the nominees list again (assumably) are first time nominees Selena Gomez and Lady Gaga, who earned themselves a Worst Actress and Worst Supporting Actress respectively. Gomez's lead role in the panned Getaway has earned her her first recognition from the Razzies committee, whilst Gaga's brief appearance in Machette Kills is up for Worst Supporting Actress. Surprisingly, this is the only nomination for Machette Kills, which failed to make the grade for the Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel category.

Unsurprisingly however is the fact that Tyler Perry's 2013 filmography has received its fair share of recognition from the Razzies, earning him four individual nominations to add to a total of seven nominations for his films A Madea Christmas and Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. For her 'breakout' movie role in Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, Kim Kardashian wins her first ever Razzie nomination, whilst Perry is up for Worst Actress, Worst Director (for both films), Worst Screenplay (for Madea) and Worst Screen Combo with Larry the Cable Guy or his worn out wig and dress. Larry the Cable Guy is also up for Worst Supporting Actor.

The 'winners' will be announced during the awards ceremony held in Los Angeles on 1 March, 2014

Taylor Swift regrets most of her ex-boyfriends 3810862 News

Taylor Swift has put all of ex-boyfriends on her ''sh*t list''.

The 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' hitmaker, who has dated a string of famous men including John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Lautner and Harry Styles, says that every one of her former flames is on her list of ''biggest regrets'' and thinks that love is a ''ruthless game''.

But despite keeping a ''sh*t list'' filled with her exes, the 23-year-old Grammy-winner told the September issue of Marie Claire magazine that they have helped her career.

She explained: ''Every one of my regrets has produced a song I'm proud of.

''Love is a ruthless game unless you play it good and right.''

Taylor recently admitted that ''heartbreak'' is her favourite emotion to draw inspiration from when it comes to her song-writing and it also helps her to move on.

The 'I Knew You Were Trouble' singer previously said: ''I think when you're heartbroken you need music more than when you're not.''

She added: ''There's something so beautiful about people who are heartbroken; they think about how they're feeling much more. I think when you're happy and when you're in love, you don't need to think about it, it's just there. Love is one of those things that is so simple, you don't need to think about it when it's good, you only need to think about it when it's bad, so when music is all that you have and you're lonely or you're missing someone and you write a song that says exactly how you feel, there is sort of a gratification you get from that, it almost helps you move on.''

Grown Ups 2 3804020 Film Reviews

There was nothing remotely notable about 2010's Grown Ups, and now we have a sequel that's even lazier. Without any actual plot to speak of, the movie merely strings together a series of unfunny scenes that include cheap gags and childish vulgarity but never a punchline. Sure, the scattershot approach might occasionally touch on recognisable situations, but there isn't a genuine laugh in the whole film.

After the reunion in the original movie, Lenny (Sandler) has moved back to his hometown with pals Eric, Kurt and Marcus (James, Rock and Spade). They're planning a big party just like in the old days, complete with a 1980s theme. But their children are getting older and have their own issues, including first dates and driving tests. And in Marcus' case, the kid is a teen thug (Ludwig) he only just discovered he had. But the real problem is that the guys have just sparked a turf war with a gang of idiotic fratboys from the nearby university. And now they have to prove once and for all who's really cool.

As with the first movie, you get the feeling that everyone on screen has somewhere better to be. There's no character development at all, since there are so many people spread across so many short scenes. Hayek, Bello and Rudolph are back as the guys' wives, but get exactly one thankless thing to do each. And it's not much better for the supporting cast of A-list cameo players like Buscemi (as a driving instructor), Lautner (as the fraternity leader) and so many more recognisable actors that you begin to wonder what dirt Sandler has on all of them.

All of this might not be so awful if there was even a hint of a relationship between these four men. But their friendship is never remotely developed; there's no loyalty or camaraderie at all. The way these characters parent their children is actually criminal. And everything feels a little slimy due to a continual stream of sexism and homophobia as these misogynistic men leer at buxom women. Frankly, only audience members under the age of 12 have the stomach for this many excretory gags. But then that's exactly who the movie was written for.

Is Taylor Lautner Dating 'Tracers' Co-Star Marie Avgeropoulos? 3789834 News

Taylor Lautner has been spotted on the streets of New York with Marie Avgeropoulos. It's not official but could this be the blossoming of a beautiful friendship which will make Twilight fans worldwide green with envy?

It's difficult to say but photographers at the New York Daily News caught the couple strolling around New York holding hands, cuddling and talking photographs on their mobile phones.

The 21-year-old Twilight star is currently filming with 27-year-old Avgeropoulos in New York. His latest project, Tracers, is another action-chase movie in which a New York bike messenger (Taylor) is forced into the world of parkour (a military style kind of free running) to avoid the mafia. Along the way he bumps into a beautiful stranger (Avgerpoulos), according to IMDb

It could simply by emotions are running high from filming, however, with their chemistry off-screen it seems likely the pair will make it official.

Avgerpoulos has previously appeared in I Love You, Beth Cooper and numerous television shows including Fringe, Eureka and 90201. She is due to appear in The Hundred, a sci-fi series which will air on CW

It is not uncommon for actors to form relationships when their characters are getting closer onscreen. Lautner's co-stars in Twilight Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were together during the filming of the Twilight Saga; Brad Pitt met Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr and Mrs Smith and True Blood's Anna Pacquin and Stephen Moyer are now married. Will Lautner and Avgerpoulos join the ranks of celebrity couples who met at work?

Lautner and Averpoulo's Tracers is due to be released in 2014.

Lady Gaga Tops Forbes' Biggest Celebrity Earners Under 30: How Much Dollar? 3777062 News

Lady Gaga is once again the top earning celebrity under 30-years-old according to Forbes Magazine's annual compilation of the top earning staring in Hollywood. The 27-year-old topped a mostly female top ten, amassing an estimated $80 million from the period of June 2012 to June 2013, beating her nearest rival by over $20 million. The singer could have made more too, if it wasn't for the unscheduled cancellation of the end of her 'Born This Way Ball' world tour in January after she was forced to undergo hip surgery.

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga could have made even more, not that she needed to

Her closest competitor was Canadian teen sensation Justin Bieber, the highest place of only three males to make the list. Bieber managed to earn a reported $58m thanks to endorsements, touring, a movie and a string of releases over the past year.

Close behind was Taylor Swift, bringing in an estimated $55m, thanks largely to her sponsorship deals with Diet Coke, Sony and Cowgirl, as well as he success of her last album Red. Rounding off the top five was one of two British entertainers on the list, with superstar DJ Calvin Harris earning $46m after finally cracking the American market, making his debut appearance on the Rich 100 list too.

Closely behind in fifth place was Rihanna, who earned an estimated $43m over the last year.

Justin Bieber
Biebs was the highest paid male

Katy Perry dropped out of the top five for the first time despite possessing the still impressive earning power to bring in $39m. In sixth place is Jennifer Lawrence, the first non-musician on the list, with an estimated $26m being earned largely through her commitment to The Hunger Games franchise - something whilst will no doubt go on to ensure she stays on the list for some time. Behind her was a fellow Oscar winner, Adele, who made $25m over the last year.

Two people we might not be seeing on the list from now on are Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, who rounded off the top ten with estimated earnings of $22m each. Now that the Twilight franchise is over, we can perhaps expect to see their earning power dwindle into the seven-figure bracket rather than an eight-figure one. Who knows how they'll cope with such meagre pickings.

Lady Gaga Tops Forbes' '30 Under 30' Celebrity Earners List 3776365 News

Lady Gaga has been a little absent from the music scene and the world of entertainment recently - put that down to her recent hip surgery - but that still hasn't stopped her from becoming the highest earning entertainer aged under thirty in the world. The 'Bad Romance' singer topped a female-dominated list, and Forbes even goes on to mention that the singer could have earned even more if she didn't have to drop out of her recent tour because of her surgery.

Lady Gaga
The Mother Monster topped the Top Earners Under 30 list for a second year

The singer has made an estimated $80 million over the course of the last year, ranging from June 2012 and June 2013. Her 'Born This Way Ball Tour' grossed $168 million before it was abruptly ended in January, with the singer also making a killing from her cosmetics range, album and singles sales and various other business ventures.

In second place was Justin Bieber, carving out a lonely figure for the men (or should it be boys in his case) on the list with an estimated $58 million made by the singer from his tours, movies and various other musical and business ventures. Close behind was Taylor Swift, taking in $55 million, much of which is likely to have been made through her endorsement deals with Diet Coke, Sony and Covergirl. Calvin Harris made his debut on the list a fourth place, making $46 million in the first year since he really broke into the American market, whilst Rihanna came fifth, taking in an estimated $43 million over the last year.

Katy Perry just missed out on the top five (we bet she's crying into her $100 bills thinking about it), with a still impressive $39 million being made despite having a relatively quiet year. Adele was some way off in seventh, making an estimated $25 million since last June. Jennifer Lawrence is the first non-musician on the list, earning an estimated $22-26 million through her various acting roles, with The Hunger Games being the most blatant role that has made her dollars. Kristen Stewart was close behind, but with the Twilight franchise over we think her mega-earning days might be behind her. The same can be said for her co-star Taylor Lautner, who rounded off the top ten with $22 million.

Anyone else feel really depressed?

With 'The Hunger Games' just getting started, we bet her mega-earning days are far from over
