Alice Babs - Swedish Singer Alice Babs Dies At 90
Swedish singer Alice Babs has died at the age of 90.
Babs, born Hildur Alice Nilsson, passed away from complications from Alzheimer's disease on Tuesday (11Feb14) in Stockholm, Sweden.
Her daughter, singer Titti Sjoblom, tells Swedish newspaper Expressen, "We are truly glad for these past few months that we shared with our dear mother."
The singer was best known for her work with jazz icon Duke Ellington. She began collaborating with him in 1963, when she performed with his orchestra in Europe.
In 1972, Babs became the first non-opera singer to be named Sweden's royal court performer and she subsequently was made a member of the Royal Academy of Music.
In addition to her musical credits, she also appeared in several films, including Swinging at the Castle, Swedish Girl and Song of Stockholm.
