Susan Boyle - Susan Boyle Diagnosed With Asperger Syndrome
Scottish singer Susan Boyle has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome.
The 52-year-old star has revealed doctors misdiagnosed her with brain damage as a child following complications at birth, but she finally found out the truth about her condition after going to see a specialist last year (12).
Boyle was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, a form of autism which affects social and communication skills, and she feels relieved to finally be able to move forward.
She tells Britain's Observer newspaper, "It was the wrong diagnosis when I was a kid. I was told I had brain damage. I always knew it was an unfair label. Now I have a clearer understanding of what's wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself... I went to seek a diagnosis from a Scottish specialist. Nobody told me to. I thought I had a more serious illness and couldn't function properly."
She was also told she has an above average Iq, which is not thought to be related to her condition, but insists she hopes her diagnosis will help others who are dealing with the condition.
She adds, "It will not make any difference to my life. It's just a condition that I have to live with and work through. I think people will treat me better because they will have a much greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do."
