Lawrence Bender - Stars Honoured For Environmentalism
Famed film producer Lawrence Bender and rockers Linkin Park were honoured for their work to raise awareness of environmental issues on Friday night (21Mar14).
Officials at the University of California, Los Angeles' (Ucla)'s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability feted the pair at a special gala in Beverly Hills in front of a star-studded crowd, including Courteney Cox, Johnny MCDaid and Anjelica Huston.
Reservoir Dogs producer Bender was chosen for his climate change activism, while the Ucla board honoured Linkin Park were praised for helping to raise $6 million (£3.75 million) for aid efforts through Music for Relief, an organisation the rockers set up after the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
Speaking to reporters at the event, Bender said, "Climate change is not a next century thing, it is not a theoretical thing, it is right here, right now - fact. My little boy right here, Misha, when he's my age the average temperature in La is going to be four to five degrees warmer. For me it's the number one issue facing us in a lifetime and it's my mission to help."
