Sara Bareilles Calls Katy Perry Song Controversy 'Misogynistic'
Singer Sara Bareilles has called out "misogynistic" critics for pitting her against Katy Perry after fans pointed out the similarities between their hit singles.
When the Teenage Dream hitmaker released her single Roar last August (13), fans of Bareilles were quick to point out that it had a similar beat to her track Brave, which was released four months earlier.
While the pop stars remain friendly, Bareilles believes the scandal was talked up because critics are keen to fuel rivalry between female celebrities.
During an interview on Monday's (19May14) episode of late night U.S. talk show Watch What Happens Live, Bareilles admitted, "It was really disturbing to me, because I feel like they don't ask male singer/songwriters or pop stars to fight. I feel like everyone just wants to see girls bash it out... it's misogynistic if you ask me."
Ironically Bareilles and Perry's hit songs were both up for the Best Pop Solo Performance prize at January's (14) Grammy Awards, but lost out to Lorde's popular track Royals.
