Jim Keays - Rocker Jim Keays Dies

Veteran rocker Jim Keays has died aged 67 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

The Scottish-born musician was admitted to an intensive care unit at a hospital in Australia after falling ill with pneumonia. He passed away on Friday morning (13Jun14).

His death comes after a seven-year battle with cancer.

After his parents emigrated Down Under, Keays joined The Mustangs, and they later changed their name to The Masters Apprentices. The band performed together between 1965 and 1972, releasing hits including Undecided, Think About Tomorrow Today and Turn Up Your Radio.

Once the group disbanded, Keays enjoyed solo success with four albums, the last of which was 2006's Resonator Liberation Blue.

The Masters Apprentices were inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association (Aria) Hall of Fame in 1998.

Paying tribute, his former bandmate Glenn Wheatley says, "I had the pleasure of sharing some of the best years of my life with Jim Keays. I will always remember him as a consummate showman. Jim had an aura about him, you always knew he was in the room,. Always the Master, never the Apprentice. His presence will remain with me always."
