Robbie Williams has had a hair transplant.

The 39-year-old star reveals on tonight's Graham Norton Show (22.11.13) that he had the procedure in Los Angeles because he was ''bored'' and not because he was going bald.

He told the UK chat show host: ''I've lived in LA for a long time and they say, 'If you sit in a barber's shop for long enough, you'll get a hair cut'.

''Well, if you live in Los Angeles for long enough you're going to get some surgery.

''I've had a thatch done, I'll tell everyone now. I didn't even need it. That's the weirdest thing.

''I had like three months off and got bored so thought, I'll go in.''

The former Take That star - who has been sporting a silver streak in his hair recently - is not the first celebrity to undergo the procedure as soccer star Wayne Rooney reportedly spent £30,000 on a transplant in 2011.

Robbie added: ''I just got some at the sides and front done. That's what I'm saying about Los Angeles, it's weird.''

The 'Go Gentle' singer, who is married to actress Ayda Field, also spoke of his homesickness after the birth of their one-year-old daughter, Teddy.

He said: ''Teddy was born 13 months ago and all of a sudden I got homesick. I want her to have British sensibilities and for her to understand irony.''

But the star said he's enjoying life on the road once again, describing it as ''really cool.''

He added: ''I spent three years away not doing anything and it took me two years to get back to a place where I felt confident enough to do my job and I got all this acceptance and love and now I am addicted to touring, to the shows.''
