Ricky Martin - Ricky Martin Makes Amends With Venezuelan President After Flag Comments
Latin superstar Ricky Martin has issued an apology to fans in Venezuela after mocking their President Nicolas Maduro for allegedly confusing the flags of Puerto Rico and Cuba.
The Livin' La Vida Loca hitmaker recently sparked controversy on Twitter.com after sharing a video clip which appeared to show Maduro mixing up the two banners as he spoke about Cuba while gesturing to the Puerto Rican flag during a speech at the Romulo Gallegos International Novel Prize event in Caracas last week (02Aug13).
Posting the link on his social networking blog, Martin commented, "Maduro confused the Puerto Rican flag with the Cuban flag."
The Puerto Rican native was flooded with replies from Venezuelan fans, who pointed out to Martin that the clip he uploaded had actually been edited - and he promptly made amends for offending Maduro.
Deleting the original tweet, he responded on Wednesday (07Aug13) by writing, "Venezuela, I love you... Lesson learned: Never Rt (re-tweet) if you don't know for sure. I don't want you to think that I intended to intervene in your politics. I never meant to offend but instead to share. Peace".
His apology caught the eye of President Maduro and the world leader took to his own Twitter page to make it known there were no hard feelings.
He posts, "A lesson in humility to everyone from Ricky Martin, I congratulate you. Venezuela also loves you. Viva Puerto Rico".
