Bon Jovi star Richie Sambora has been caring for his mother after she fractured her hip.

The guitarist, who quit the band's 2013 world tour to spend more time with his daughter, has been using his time off to look after his mum, Joan, following her accident six weeks ago.

He has been travelling back and forth from California to his native New Jersey to oversee her care.

He tells The Hollywood Reporter, "I'm her only son, so I have to come out here and make sure her doctors are Ok. But she's doing well. Everything has its time."

Sambora has also used his time back in New Jersey to get in touch with Bon Jovi co-star Tico Torres, whose own mother has been unwell, and the drummer has also been recovering after undergoing emergency gall bladder surgery and an appendectomy while on tour in Mexico in September (13).

Sambora adds, "We texted each other all the time. His mom is sick, and my mom was sick, and I'm in New Jersey at the same time. I said, 'Dude, I'm here. What can I do for you?'"

The star also hinted he may return to the band next year (14), adding, "Yes, I would think about it for sure. There's no malice here."
