Randy Travis - Randy Travis In Critical Condition in Hospital
Country singer Randy Travis has been hospitalised with a heart condition following complications from a virus.
Randy Travis is in critical condition in hospital following complications from a virus.
The country singer was admitted to a Dallas hospital on Sunday night (07.07.13) after contracting a heart condition called viral cardiomyopathy.
While Travis' publicist Kirt Webster revealed no other details, the condition can require surgery since it weakens the heart muscle, making it harder to pump blood throughout the body.
The 54-year-old singer was touring when the illness struck after performing in Detroit on June 28 and in Chicago on June 29. He was scheduled to appear in Deadwood, South Dakota, on Wednesday (10.07.13).
Travis has had a tough few months, pleading guilty to drink driving in January following his arrest last year when he was found naked after crashing his Pontiac Trans Am.
He was given a 180-day suspended jail sentence and a $2000 fine, as well as being ordered to spend at least 30 days in rehab and complete 100 hours of community service.
The 'Three Wooden Crosses' star has since made several big public appearances, including a performance at fellow country star George Jones' funeral.
He also took to the stage in Nashville in June, where he revealed he had finished recording an album of country classics.
The singer has seven Grammys, 10 Academy of Country Music awards and 10 American Music Awards to his name.
