Prince Charles - Prince Charles Joins Celebrities Toasting Royal Baby Birth

New grandfather Prince Charles has joined stars including Spice Girl Emma Bunton, actor William Shatner and opera singer Katherine Jenkins in expressing his excitement at his son Prince William's new baby following the royal birth on Monday (22Jul13).

William's wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, gave birth to the couple's first child in the Lindo wing of St. Mary's Hospital in London at 4.24pm local time, and the news was announced four hours later, with an official notice placed on an easel outside Queen Elizabeth Ii's royal residence, Buckingham Palace.

Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, released a statement shortly after the news broke and revealed he and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, were delighted with the news.

The statement reads: "Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy.

"Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone's life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future."

Meanwhile, a slew of celebrities have joined in the celebrations via Twitter.com, with pop star Bunton writing, "It's a boy!!! Special times ahead for Kate and William" and classical singer Jenkins adding, "Awwww... It's a boy! Congratulations! Sooo happy for you! GlassesRaised Toast Celebrations".

Lily Allen, aka Lily Rose Cooper, was disappointed the third-in-line to the throne was a boy, tweeting, "Sad it's a boy though, queens are dons, kings are p**sies."

The news was also celebrated by stars across the Atlantic, with Americans Mia Farrow, Patricia Heaton and Alec Baldwin's pregnant wife Hilaria marking the event online.

William Shatner writes, "So pleased to hear that William and Kate had a baby boy. Long live the future king."

The royal baby news was also an opportunity for a few jokes online - John Cusack quips, "Is the baby an important one?", while Juno star Ellen Page notes, "Woah people seem super excited for this new british band, the royal baby."
