The Lord Of The Rings - Peter Jackson Scraps Comic-con Plans

The Lord Of The Rings director Peter Jackson has scrapped plans to unveil his work on his new The Hobbit movie at California's Comic-Con convention as he is too busy shooting in New Zealand.

The moviemaker had been expected to show off footage from the second installment in the three-part fantasy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, during the event in San Diego, California later this month (Jul13).

However, Jackson has now axed plans to attend the conference, or send any castmembers to greet fans, as he is racing to finish shooting the movie.

In a video blog posted on his page, he says, "I just want to pass on some news that I'm sure is going to be disappointing to anyone going to Comic-Con this year. A couple of days ago I told Warners (Warner Bros. film studio) that I really wasn't ready to present anything on The Desolation of Smaug at Comic-Con this year. The reasons for that are... We're still shooting and we are going to be shooting through the period of Comic-Con...

"We looked at what actors we could send... there wasn't really anybody that could go... The problem is I'm so busy shooting, working six days a week, trying to get these pick-ups (additional scenes) done... I just had to take the Comic-Con burden off my shoulders... I'm sure you understand."

Jackson hosted a presentation about the first Hobbit movie, based on J.R.R. Tolkien's classic novel, at Comic-Con last summer (12).
