Sir Paul Mccartney - Paul Mccartney To Receive Songwriter's Songwriter Prize At Nme Awards
Sir Paul Mccartney is set to be feted as the Songwriter's Songwriter at the U.K.'s upcoming Nme Awards.
The Beatles icon, who penned hits like Yesterday, She Loves You and Mull of Kintyre, will be handed the one-off prize in recognition of his phenomenal career at the London ceremony later this month (Feb14) after he was voted the best of the best by his fellow musicians.
Nme editor Mike Williams says, "We've spoken to the biggest and best musicians around, and they've told us Paul MCCartney is the world's ultimate songwriter. Paul's enduring and stunning talent is worth celebrating, and I'm incredibly honoured that Nme are giving him the special, one-of-its-kind Songwriter's Songwriter award to recognise that."
MCCartney will pick up the trophy in person on 26 February (14), when the prizes will be handed out at the O2 Academy Brixton.
Among the other special honourees, Blondie will take home the Godlike Genius Award; Blur star Damon Albarn will receive the first-ever Innovation Award, and Belle & Sebastian will be presented with the Teenage Cancer Trust Outstanding Contribution to Music Award.
