Sir Paul Mccartney - Paul Mccartney's Brother Has No Regrets Over Missed Beatles Chance

Sir Paul Mccartney's brother insists it was "lucky" he missed out on a chance to join The Beatles, because he fears their sibling rivalry would have wrecked the band.

Mick MCCartney acted as a drummer when his elder brother first started collaborating with John Lennon, but his dreams were dashed when his arm was left severely damaged during an accident in his early teens.

George Harrison and Pete Best later joined the group as guitarist and drummer, before the latter was replaced by Ringo Starr, and the band went on to become the biggest act in the world.

However, Mick MCCartney is adamant he is not bitter over the missed opportunity, insisting the result of sharing fame with his sibling could have left them estranged like Oasis brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher.

He tells Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, "I was nearly in The Beatles. I was The Beatles drummer, but I broke my arm in the Scouts

"It was when John (Lennon) used to come to the house in (Liverpool, England) with The Quarrymen, before George (Harrison) was even there. I broke my arm at camp and it affected the nerves that control the wrist. They were dead. If I hadn't broken my arm, I'd have been a Beatle. But I did break my arm and I'm not a Beatle. You always have to deal in reality, not dreams.

"You could look at this another way. If I hadn't broken my arm, if I had joined The Beatles, maybe we'd have ended up fighting like Liam and Noel Gallagher in Oasis. So, it's fortuitous and lucky I didn't join. I have a nice, close, stable relationship with my brother."

Liam and Noel Gallagher have been estranged since Oasis split in 2009 following years of bust-ups between the brothers.
