Stone Roses - Officials Blame London Crime Rise On Stone Roses Gigs

Officials in London have blamed the Stone Roses gigs for a spike in crime earlier this year (13).

The reunited cult rockers took to the stage for two huge concerts in Finsbury Park in the U.K. capital in June, attracting thousands of fans to the area.

New figures from the Metropolitan Police have shown there was a huge jump in reported crimes in the borough in the same month, shooting up from 20 in May (13) to 195.

Now councillors have suggested the increase is down to the band's gigs, which could have attracted pickpockets to the area. Locals also complained about the behaviour of some revellers, who were accused of fighting and urinating in the streets.

Haringey Council official Richard Wilson says, "It's really, really worrying that there has been such a big spike around the event and we need to ask questions of the council and police seeing as they want to increase the number of commercial concerts going on there."

Paul Convery, executive member for community safety at Islington Council, adds, "The Finsbury Park ward is the one I remain concerned about. This rise (in crime) may well be something to do with the Stone Roses gig. There was a lot of disorder and unpleasant behaviour with people urinating everywhere."
