Margaret Pelligrini - Munchkin Margaret Pellegrini Dies At 89

Margaret Pelligrini, one of the last remaining Munchkins from the original Wizard Of Oz movie, has died at the age of 89.

The actress, who played the Flower Pot Munchkin in the 1939 film, passed away in Arizona on Wednesday (07Aug13).

The four foot (1.22 metre) tall star was just 14 when she was cast in the Judy Garland film and was one of the youngest actors on the set - she was over a year younger than Garland.

Born in Tuscumbia, Alabama in 1923, Pellegrini became a regular at Oz-themed events and was scheduled to serve as grand marshal of this year's (Jun13) Chittenango's Oz-Stravaganza festival in New York. She suffered a stroke in the lead up to the event and was forced to cancel her appearance.

Flowers will be placed on the Munchkins' Hollywood Walk of Fame star on Wednesday to mark Pelligrini's death.
