Msnbc Doesn't Get A Ratings Boost From Zimmerman Coverage
For most of the month it had seemed as if MSNBC's slogan could have been All Zimmerman, All the Time, as the cable news network went virtually wall-to-wall with coverage of the trial of George Zimmerman for the killing of Trayvon Martin. In doing so, it had put on mute its regular slogan, The Place for Politics. But when the ratings came in on Monday for the finale of the trial -- Saturday night's verdict finding Zimmerman innocent -- MSNBC found itself in fourth place -- a distant fourth at that. Fox News had the most viewers, 3.68 million, slightly ahead of CNN with 3.41 million, but CNN came out on top among the key 25-54 age group with 1.72 million. Its cable sibling, HLN, drew a total of 2.20 million with 980,000 in the 25-54 demo, while MSNBC could only attract 1.30 million viewers, with just 510,000 in the demo.
