Mutya Keisha Siobhan - MKS: We could've taken Sugababes name

Mutya Keisha Siobhan say they could have been called the Sugababes if they ''wanted''.

The 'Flatline' singers - who formed the original line-up of the chart-topping girl group - claim they could have reunited under their previous band's name, but decided to focus on producing new music instead of winning back their old moniker.

Keisha Buchanan, who was the longest serving Sugababe before leaving in 2009, explained to BBC News: ''We could have had the name if we wanted to go and get it, I guess. But I don't feel like we needed it. There was so much emphasis on the name and we wanted it to be about us.''

Her bandmate Siobhan Donaghy - who left the original incarnation of the Sugababes in 2001 after the release of their debut album 'One Touch' - says the trio, which also consists of Mutya Buena, felt there was ''unfinished business'' between them and they were curious to see what new music they could come up with.

She said: ''I think we felt like there was unfinished business with the way the other band ended up, and it felt like, what would the next album after 'One Touch' have sounded like? We wanted to give it a try.

''I think the music has moved on and it's more contemporary, so it's not similar to 'One Touch' in that sense, but what is similar is that we've chosen lots of different genres of music that we're able to put together on one album that still sounds like a body of work.''

The Sugababes have seen numerous line-up changes since Siobhan's exit; Heidi Range joined Keisha and Mutya in 2001, but Mutya quit the group in 2005 and was replaced by Amelle Berrabah. In 2009, Keisha was dropped in favour of Jade Ewen.
