Michael Douglas - Michael Douglas 'Hopeful' He Can Save Marriage
Michael Douglas has been trying to work on his marriage with Catherine Zeta Jones since the couple announced their temporary separation in August.
Michael Douglas is ''hopeful'' he can save his marriage.
The 68-year-old actor opened up about his rocky romance with Catherine Zeta Jones - who he began dating in March 1999 - at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night (22.09.13) in Los Angeles by confirming the long-term couple are on a ''break'', but are keen to work through their differences.
He told US presenter Billy Bush: ''Catherine is great. She is doing wonderful, talked to her today [and] just got a lovely note from her. I'm very hopeful that we're going to work things out.
''As I said we're just taking a break, a couple of issues, sometimes you got to do that.''
Michael - who has two children Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10, with the Welsh beauty - picked up the gong for Best Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie Award for HBO's 'Behind The Candelabra' at the ceremony.
He thanked his estranged wife during his moving acceptance speech, as well as giving a special shout out to his eldest son Cameron from his first marriage, who is currently serving time for drugs offences.
Michael said: ''I want to thank my wife Catherine for her support, my kids Dylan and Carys, and a shout out for my oldest son Cameron and hoping that they'll allow me to see him soon.''
The father-of-three has not been pictured with Catherine since they announced their separation in August.
