Dave Matthews Band - Man Pleads Guilty To Defrauding Dave Matthews Band's Boyd Tinsley
A former assistant to Dave Matthews Band violinist Boyd Tinsley faces up to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to defrauding the musician of at least $400,000 (£266,670).
Getty Andrew Rothenberg served as the star's personal assistant and financial manager for years and was placed in charge of settling Tinsley's personal bills and expenses, looking after his direct investments, and taking care of some financial arrangements for his wife.
However, Tinsley discovered last year (12) that Rothenberg had routinely taken more money than necessary to cover the bills, pocketing the extra cash for his own personal use from 2009.
The musician also learned the culprit had been withdrawing cash from a number of his bank accounts, writing cheques to himself, and taking out credit in the artist's name.
Rothenberg, who had been friends with Tinsley for two decades, pleaded guilty to the fraud charge during a court hearing in Charlottesville, Virginia on Tuesday (23Jul13), and he will be sentenced on 17 September (13).
His lawyer, Tom Bondurant, has blamed his client's actions on "some unfortunate circumstances", adding, "Andrew Rothenberg is a good man... He knows what he did is wrong."
