Luc Besson - Luc Besson wants Lucy viewers to 'question reality'

'Lucy' director Luc Besson says the ambition behind the film is to make viewers ''question what's real and what's fake''.

The new flick - which stars Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman - is an action thriller concerning a woman who gains 100 per cent access to her cognitive abilities, causing viewers to query the difference between perception and reality.

He told the Guardian: ''If you're asking the question of what's real and what's fake, I'm the winner! Because that's exactly what I want. I want people to say, 'Hold on, what's true and what's fake?'

''[The idea] that we're only using 10 per cent of our brain, that's wrong. It's an old theory from the 1960s, [but] it's never been proven. What is real is that we're using 15 per cent of our neurons at the same time - never 100 per cent.''

Besson, 55, added: ''We are the opposite of politicians, you know. Politicians are supposed to tell the truth and everybody knows they are lying. So in the cinema, everybody knows that we are lying but we're looking for the truth.''

'Lucy' is released in UK cinemas on Friday [22.08.14].
