Louis Tomlinson's father fears the One Direction star will meet a tragic end like Amy Winehouse or Peaches Geldof unless the band's management steps in to protect him in the aftermath of his 'dope' scandal.

Tomlinson and his bandmate Zayn Malik hit headlines on Tuesday (27May14) after a short film showing them apparently smoking cannabis appeared online.

In the five-minute clip, the pair can be seen sharing a roll-up cigarette and discussing "illegal substances" as they travel in a car during a tour stop in Lima, Peru last month (Apr14).

Many fans of the band have reacted with dismay, taking to social networking websites to express their disgust, with some even ripping up or burning tickets to the group's concerts.

Now Tomlinson's father Troy Austin has voiced his fears that his famous son is going off the rails, and he wants record company bosses to save him from self-destructing.

Austin tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "I'm worried for him. I do believe that being famous will be taking its toll on them. I think everyone is concerned it could lead to other things... He said he would never get a tattoo because it was a scar and he'd never smoke because it would damage his vocal cords. He's gone the opposite way and I hope it doesn't get worse...

"It seems the fame and money have changed him. He's a different person. Where are his management? As far as I know they have the best management that money can buy and those people should be protecting them from things like this... Look at people like Peaches (Geldof) and Amy Winehouse and what happened to them...

"(One Direction) must be able to get their hands on anything because of their position. They are under huge pressure, with a hectic schedule but their attitude in the video makes me cringe. It's very childish."

Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 after a drinking binge, while Geldof died after taking heroin last month (Apr14). An official cause of death is still pending.
