Lisa Kudrow - Lisa Kudrow Loses Legal Battle With Former Manager

Actress Lisa Kudrow has been ordered to hand over $1.7 million (£1.06 million) to her former manager after losing a breach of contract lawsuit.

The former Friends star was accused of reneging on an oral agreement she reportedly made with Scott Howard, entitling him to a portion of her earnings related to deals he helped to set up before he was fired in 2007. His claim also included residuals from the hit Tv series.

The case went to trial in a Santa Monica, California court last week (ends21Feb14), when Kudrow faced off with her manager of 16 years and denied making any such agreement.

However, the jury voted 10 to two against Kudrow and delivered a verdict in Howard's favour on Wednesday (26Feb14).

Congratulations to personal manager Scott Howard for standing up for his right to get paid for his services. The National Conference of Personal Managers (NCOPM) has established and maintained an industry standard that personal managers are entitled to compensation based on ALL revenue received as a result of ALL contracts and engagements entered into by an artist during the term of the personal management agreement and any extensions, renewals or substitutions of such contracts and engagements or any other post termination compensation due. In the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, NCOPM is currently challenging the constitutionality of the California Talent Agencies Act, which has been used for decades by artists to avoid compensating their managers.
